Adoption Counseling

Thinking about adding a new member to the family? Did you recently add a new member to the family and things aren't going as well as you'd hoped? We can help!

It's a good idea to sit down and think about what you're looking for in a new friend long before you start looking. You might even want to contact your local shelter or rescue group to ask about fostering. Fostering is a great way to find a pet that fits in perfectly at your home. Kyla and Stitch, my two dogs in the picture to the right were both foster dogs, and they get along wonderfully with eachother and my 3 cats!

Ask your self a few questions like these:
    1. Do I have time for a new pet?
    2. How much time do I have? Do I want to take my new friend for 4-5 walks a day or 2-3? Young puppies or adolescents with under developed bladders can require up to 10 outings a day! Puppies are cute, but they're a lot of work...Am I ready?
    3. What kind of pet do I want? Dog or Cat? What breed? Mixed? Purebred? Small or Large? Small doesn't necessarily mean easy. Some breeds would love nothing more than to lounge around and sleep all day, while others need lots of exercise.
    4. Is everyone in my household committed to owning a pet? Dogs can live to be 14+ years old, and cats 20+. Where will I be in 10 years?
    5. Where will my new friend sleep? In my bed? Where ever he wants? In their own bed?

Relationships are the foundation to all good dog training.
